Journal History

October 11 Trip

Sun Oct 11, 2009, 8:43 PM
Today, a colleague and I traveled to North Idaho in search of Shadow Falls and Fern Falls. I had originally planned on shooting there earlier last month, but was unable to do so. The trip started out at 9:30am. The trip was about 2 hours long; not too bad, any road trip under 10 hours is always a good road trip.

When we reached our destination, Jason and I were slightly surprised to see trace elements of snow on the ground. It was obviously a cold day from the start; when we reached the Falls, the temperature was 27 degrees, only rising four more degrees in the 4 hours we were there. The sun had wiped out most of the snow by the time we left.

The first fall that we reached was Fern Falls; a beautiful fall that was only enhanced by the collection of ice at the bottom and the icicles hanging from the rocks. The flow was fairly light, which was expected at this time of year. It made for great photos; 6 to 10 second exposures were a staple to capture the serene elements.

The second fall, Shadow Falls, was much larger and had a great cove built into the left side of the pool. Once again, 6 to 10 second exposures were needed. The water flowed slowly over the side as it collected at the bottom, running down to Fern Falls below it.

After packing up our gear; which included 2-medium format, 1-large format, and 2 digital cameras and array of other gear, we headed home to what was then 41 degree weather in Spokane.

Take a look at Shadow Falls, posted in my galleries; the ice really adds a nice twist to the fall. There will be a couple more images that make it here later in the week.

How do you get the icons on your friends list. I never quite figured that out.

There are no wrong choices, only wrong reasons.

There should be an edit button in the upper right section of that module. You can change it there, unless, maybe it is a premium member option.

absolutely, I would like to. Just must check the schedule :)

Great. I'm not available until mid September, as I am booked with shoots. Also, I am only available to shoot on weekends and holidays. I work for Washington Trust Bank during the week, as it is my main source of income (that whole "starving artist" thing). I'll message you on MM with dates that I am available.

Please take the time to look through my galleries and let me know what you think.

Chris

I'm looking forward to figuring it all out, and I'll continue to peruse your gallaries :)
What kind of a shoot do you have in mind?
